What Proposition 65 is
Proposition 65 is a California law — the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986. It requires businesses to warn California residents before they're exposed to any chemical the state has listed as causing cancer or reproductive harm.
The warning is triggered by California's exposure thresholds, which are among the strictest in the world — considerably stricter than the federal limits for the same elements. It is not a finding by any agency that a product is unsafe, and it is not specific to us.
Why a greens powder carries this warning
Lead occurs naturally in soil and water. Plants take it up from the ground as they grow — it isn't added, and it can't be farmed out entirely.
A greens powder concentrates a lot of plant material into a single scoop. That concentration is the whole point of the product, and it's also why trace amounts of naturally occurring elements can reach California's threshold. This is why the warning appears across the greens and superfood category rather than on one brand.
